What do you end up drawing a lot of when you’re around children everyday? Toys! In this case I took it a step further and drew mine and my husband’s hand me down toys. I didn’t have duplos growing up that I remember but these folks are irresistible. Sure, the new ones have arms and feet and more facial detailing but the ones from the 1980’s managed to have more character. How do you make a dog when all you have is the person mold? Stick some dog ears on the hair!

I ended up drawing a lot of toys but this was one of my favorites and inspired a whole collection in a similar style, color palette and theme. I decided to call the collection Everlasting Fun because I kept it to all toys that managed to entertain multiple generations. I’m not done yet as I still have several retro toys that I want to draw after I’ve seen if they’ve stood the test of time.
