I have known my husband for over 15 years and the first time that I asked him to come up with a T-shirt design that he would want to wear he responded immediately: ‘The Enterprise flying over a mountain of skulls with some possible explosions.’ My heart sank in that moment because I had hoped I could accomplish his request quickly and get him a T-shirt for his birthday but I had only recently gotten involved in T-shirt design and his description was intimidating. I gently suggested he chose something ‘simpler’ but he just kept on talking about the number of skulls. I anxiously put together a draft and showed it to him only to hear that it needed more skulls, ‘a lot more skulls’. As I was going through my old artwork I was inspired to paint the concept in full, no longer limited by the constraints of a T-shirt.
